"Right wing of the Grand Chateau Vaesharteld", lithography (1863 or 1864) by Theodore Müller (1819-1879)
Venue
The 20th STAFF-MALT meeting will be held in Buitenplaats Vaeshartelt, Weert 9, 6222 PG Maastricht, the Netherlands. In 1841, this chateau was bought by Petrus Regout, at the time acting as an authorized representant of king Willem II of the Netherlands. Regout (1801-1871) was the founder of the famous Maastricht crystal, glass and pottery factory P. Regout & Co., known as De Sphinx (1834-2009). Originally, the 118 hectares measuring country estate was intended to be a hunting lodge for the king who, however, used it only a few times. In 1851, after the king died, Petrus Regout bought the estate for himself. He used it initially as a country residence, but from 1863 on also as his fixed residence. The estate is now operated as a hotel and as a party and meeting center. Travel
How to get there? For those who travel by public transport: there are good train connections from the surrounding airports (Amsterdam-Schiphol, Düsseldorf, Brussels, Köln) and also from Karlsruhe (for those who attend Computing in Cardiology there). Travel by train to Maastricht Central Station and take there a taxi to Vaeshartelt. Train travelling information / tickets: https://www.nsinternational.com/en.
If you have a KLM flight and travel by KLM bus from Amsterdam-Schiphol to Maastricht, you best get off the bus at Maastricht-Aachen Airport, and take there a taxi to Vaeshartelt. This is better than continuing by bus to the next and final busstop Maastricht Center and taking a taxi there.
For those travelling by car: Vaeshartelt has ample parking space, parking is free, and you can charge your EV there.
Important to know: there is no public transport in the close vicinity of the meeting site.
